Tick thud! Tick Thud! Tick Thud!
The cardinal kept slam dunking his beak and body at the glass deck door. His reflection nemesis never fought back. If only he could understand, there’s not a bird in the glass. Yet, day after day he keeps coming back to take out his own reflection.
We fight a similar battle. Every day the enemy of our soul shows up in our thought life with his list of what ifs, fears, and reminders of past failures. Wounds from the past— unforgiveness, striving, lack of peace, all threaten to derail us. Will you believe these lies, these phantom birds residing in your glass door?
Jesus says, Come away from the door. That’s not you. That bird doesn’t even exist. He’s a figment, a reflection from the past. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5: 17 Stop buying the lies, and beating your head. It hurts. It’s bloody, but His blood has redeemed you. Shame is not a part of your identity anymore. The truth is free, but you must believe it.
Isaiah 55:1 Ho, everyone who thirsts come to the waters and you that have no money come buy and eat.
Lord,
Help me buy your truth. Let my heart fully grasp that I am a new creation, a beautiful butterfly in your kingdom. By your grace I will stop believing the lies and soak in the truth of your love. You are good. I choose trust even when I don’t feel it. And in Jesus name, I cancel every attack on my identity. Amen!
